A photoshoot at Jan Thiel Beach takes place on the east side of Curaçao, at Jan Thiel Bay. I live close by myself, at Marbella. It’s a landscaped beach with sand, palapas and a row of loungers: the feel of Mambo, with lifestyle around it.
Access is free, and so is parking. The area is the tourist part of the island, but there are corners closer to the water or beside the busiest palapas.
About Jan Thiel
- Landscaped beach on Jan Thiel Bay
- Free access and parking
- Palapas, loungers and lifestyle around it
- Salt flats right next to the beach, as a fallback
- Five minutes from Jan Thiel and Marbella
You get a beach with atmosphere here: sand, clear water and palm trees, with the boulevard in the background. On the beach itself we move along until we find a stretch that’s calm enough. In the morning the sun is behind us, and in the evening it sets into the sea.

The salt flats as a fallback
Right next to the beach lie the salt flats. It’s quiet there, and a large group has more freedom than between the loungers. Plan it early or late in the day, because it gets hot at midday. In the photos you swap sand and palm trees for the open expanse of the flats.
Want the same feel closer to Willemstad? Then look at a photoshoot at Mambo Beach. Looking for more calm and space? Then a beach photoshoot in Curaçao fits better, for example at Marie Pampoen. Want something other than sand? Fort Beekenburg is close by.
Staying elsewhere on the east side? Then Jan Thiel is often close. Other spots are listed under photoshoot locations in Curaçao: east.
Plan your photoshoot at Jan Thiel Beach
Tell me where you’re staying and how many of you there are. Then we’ll see whether we stay on the beach or walk to the salt flats.
