A photoshoot at Fort Beekenburg is not a typical beach shoot. It’s an old fort at Caracasbaai, at the entrance to Spanish Water (Spaanse Water), with walls, cannons, cactus and views over the bay.
You park close by and walk up. No entrance fee is charged, and the fort is open. Below you see the water of Caracasbaai; above, the walls and the wind.
About Fort Beekenburg
- Fort at Caracasbaai
- A small beach nearby
- Walls, cannons, cactus
- Views over the bay
- Parking nearby
Beekenburg gives you a different image from sand and palm trees. You stand on stone, with the sea below you. If that setting suits what you want in the photo, this is a logical place. Only want a beach? Then a beach photoshoot in Curaçao fits better, for example at Jan Thiel or down at Caracasbaai.
On the walls you get height and line. Between the cactus there’s a rougher corner. In the morning the light is soft. In the afternoon it gets warmer and the bay turns a deeper colour. Both work. The wind is more usual here than in a sheltered southern bay.
Two people, or a whole family, fit nicely on the plateau, on a wall or next to a cannon. We keep it calm: no climbing that isn’t needed, just the angle that leaves the bay open.
In the photos you see stone, cactus and water, shot in the morning. No sun loungers. No boulevard. Just a recognisable fort with Caracasbaai behind it.
Want a complete beach instead? Then take a look at a photoshoot at Marie Pampoen. Looking for a sheltered bay with rocks, on this side of the island? Then Directors Bay fits.
Staying nearby, in Jan Thiel or at Caracasbaai? Then the drive to the fort is short.
Other spots on this side of the island are listed under photoshoot locations in Curaçao: east.
