A photoshoot at Marriott Beach takes place on the hotel beach of the Curaçao Marriott Beach Resort at Piscadera Bay, just outside Willemstad and five to ten minutes from town. The sand lies in short curves in front of the hotel, with palm trees and sun loungers.
Most of the times I shot here, the people were staying at the Marriott. Access for non-guests is arranged with the hotel beforehand; if that doesn’t work, we move to Piscadera.

Marriott Beach is a hotel beach. Short sand, palm trees, sun loungers. No boulevard, no cliffs. You get a manicured bay with the water right in front of you. If you want soft sand and a polished bay, this is the place.
In the morning the sun rises behind us: soft light, and the loungers are often still empty. Around midday the light is harsh, so I’d rather pick another moment. In the late afternoon the sun sets into the ocean. Those are the golden hour moments, though the beach is busier then. A wooden deck stands at the water’s edge. You can stand there with the sea behind you, away from the sand.
Some corners are soft sand, others have stone in the surf. The hotel comes into the frame when we look towards the facade, so we stand with our backs to the building, or slightly to the side where the bay opens up. The beach suits families up to larger extended families, without feeling tight.
