A walk through the city
I picked them up at their hotel, Avila Beach Hotel, at 4:00 pm. From there we walked to Scharloo, then through Punda and on to Pietermaai. Each neighborhood gave a different backdrop: the old mansions of Scharloo, the streets of Punda and the colorful facades of Pietermaai.
More than a photoshoot
We didn’t share a language, so a lot went through a translation app. It didn’t matter at all. They were happy the whole way, and I could tell them about the streets and the special corners of Curaçao along the route. A photoshoot and a city walk in one.
Sunset at Avila
We ended where they were staying: on their hotel beach, as the sun went down. After two hours in the city, the calm of the sea was the perfect way to close. Staying at a resort or hotel by the sea yourself? The shoot can start or end there too.
A couples photoshoot in the city: how it works
Prefer the city over just the beach? I’ll plan the route around you.
- Start in the late afternoon. The light is lower, and it’s cooler for walking.
- Pick a day without a cruise ship if you can. On a weekday with no ships in port, the city is fairly quiet. When ships are docked, it gets busier.
- Wear shoes you can walk in. A city route easily adds up to a few kilometers.
- End by the sea. City and beach in one shoot gives you two completely different sets of photos.
