One photographer charges a few hundred dollars, another charges much more — while the number of photos you receive can vary just as much. But what does a photoshoot on Curaçao actually cost? What can you expect?
Sometimes you get 20 photos for $75, sometimes you pay $250 for 5 images. The difference lies in experience, working method, preparation, editing and of course: the result. Are you hiring a photographer with experience or someone who does it “on the side”? And is the shoot on location, in a studio or in bulk?

The cost of a photoshoot can vary considerably. On average, prices range between $100 and $500 per shoot, depending on what you book and with whom. Some photographers work with an hourly rate, which varies from $50 to sometimes as much as $200 per hour. Others, like myself, prefer to work with fixed rates — including edited photos.
At ByFoekema Fotografie, photoshoots start from $150. For that you get a 30-minute portrait shoot with at least 5 carefully edited photos. Depending on the type of shoot, the location and the number of images you receive, the rate increases. You are not only paying for the photography itself. There are several factors I take into account besides time alone, such as: preparation, personal guidance, selection of the best images, materials and professional editing. A fair rate is therefore more than just a price per hour. It is the sum of time, quality and attention.
What influences the price?
A photoshoot is not a standard product. The price you pay depends on a number of factors that together determine the final result. Below I explain what plays a role and what you can pay attention to when comparing different photographers.
Experience of the photographer
Experience shows not only in the final photos, but also during the shoot itself. A photographer with years of experience knows how to handle different situations, lighting conditions and people who might feel a bit uncomfortable in front of the camera. That makes the difference between simply “taking pictures” and delivering good photography. An experienced photographer thinks ahead, works efficiently and gets the most out of your time together. That experience costs a bit more, but it saves you time, stress and disappointment afterwards.
Duration of the shoot
How long a photoshoot takes influences the price, but not always in the way you might expect. A short 20-minute session may seem cheap, but can actually be relatively expensive if preparation, travel time and editing are not included. A longer session often gives you more value for money if it’s well organised and produces a good variety of images. At ByFoekema I work with clear packages where the duration matches the type of shoot. Sometimes 30 minutes is enough for a strong portrait. For a family or couples shoot, 45 to 60 minutes usually works better – it gives space, calm and variety without feeling rushed.
Location
The location of the shoot can also affect the price. A quiet outdoor location is different from a studio session, a holiday home or a busy city centre. Think about travel time, lighting, parking or having to move if the weather turns bad. I always work on location – whether that’s the beach, nature, a neighbourhood or at your home. We choose the spot together based on what suits your shoot best. Travel costs within a reasonable distance on Curaçao are included. For longer trips or special locations, we discuss any extra costs in advance so you know exactly where you stand.
Editing
Editing is one of the most important – and time-consuming – parts of the process. This is where I give the photos their calm, clarity and atmosphere. It starts with carefully selecting the best images, followed by colour correction, contrast, cropping and fine details. Every photo gets attention. No heavy filters or over-editing, just subtle adjustments so you and the moment look their best. This takes time – often more than the shoot itself – but it’s exactly what makes you proud to share, print or gift the photos.
Number of photos and delivery
The number of photos you receive says a lot about what you get, but not everything. Ten strong, carefully selected and edited images are often more valuable than fifty average shots with no selection or editing. That’s why I only deliver the best photos – chosen and edited in my style. You receive them digitally in high resolution via a personal download link. Do I need to make a deposit?
No, with me you don’t need to pay anything in advance. We schedule the shoot in consultation and I trust that the agreements made will be kept. Payment is made during the photoshoot.
Can I order extra photos?
Yes, that is possible. In most cases I already deliver more photos than agreed, but if you want extra images, that is possible for a fixed amount per extra photo. You will always be informed about this in advance.
Can you give a photoshoot as a gift?
Yes, that is possible. Many clients arrange a photoshoot as a surprise for a birthday, anniversary or other occasion. I do not provide physical gift vouchers, but I am happy to think along with you. For example, you can use a photo of me to make your own card or voucher.
What if it rains or someone is sick?
No stress, we reschedule the appointment free of charge. I think it is important that the circumstances are right. Good photos are only created when everyone is relaxed.
