A Curaçao photographer can be valuable for many reasons. For some it is a special moment with the family. For others it is a romantic memory with a partner. Or perhaps you want professional portraits for social media, your CV or simply because it is time for something new.

Whatever your reason: a photoshoot fits many moments in life. But how exactly does a photoshoot work on Curaçao? What should you pay attention to when booking? At ByFoekema I keep it clear and simple. In this article you read step by step how it works – from planning to receiving your photos. Especially during your stay on the island everything is set up to be easy and stress-free.

What does a photoshoot actually mean?

How does a photoshoot work and what is it exactly? A photoshoot is a moment when you consciously take time to capture yourself, your family or a special occasion. Not posed or stiff, but exactly as you really are. With attention for light, location and the story behind the photos.
wat betekent een fotoshoot
Whether it is a spontaneous session on holiday, a set of portraits or a shoot with your partner: it is always about capturing a feeling. The photos are more than pictures: they become a memory of a specific moment you love to look back on.
A photoshoot results in a stylish photo series or several series from one session.

How do you plan a photoshoot with the photographer?

Planning a photoshoot does not have to be complicated. If you are at this stage you often already know who you want in the photos. Usually you book for yourself, and sometimes you give a photoshoot as a gift.

Whatever it is: at ByFoekema I keep the booking process clear and personal. This is how it works in practice:

  1. Get in touch
Booking a photoshoot is simple via the online form. You indicate what kind of photoshoot you are looking for: a portrait shoot, family photoshoot, love shoot or something else. Or you send an email via the contact page.
  2. Share your preferences
Tell me what you have in mind. Think about location (beach, city or nature), number of people and a desired date or time of day. I am happy to think along with you about the options.
  3. Confirmation & planning
After I receive your request I get a notification right away. I contact you quickly to finalise everything: date, time, location and other practical matters. You receive a confirmation email with all the details.
  4. Tips and preparation
After booking you can already read handy tips under photoshoot Curacao. Questions such as “what should I wear for a photoshoot” are answered there.
But do not worry – it is not rocket science. I guide you step by step through the whole process. And it often becomes clear by itself.

What can you expect during the photoshoot?

Most people do not stand in front of a camera every day. That is why I make sure your photoshoot feels relaxed and natural. No forced poses, but moments as they really are.

Some people already know what kind of photos they would like. They bring examples from Pinterest or Instagram. That is perfectly fine – during the shoot we can look at those examples calmly and organise them.

Before the shoot: quick final check

Before we start we go over everything calmly: the location, the flow and any specific wishes. So you know exactly what to expect.

During the shoot: relaxed and at ease

We start gently. I help you feel comfortable and give tips on posture or movement when needed. There is always room for spontaneous moments, especially with families and children. That is exactly what makes the photos powerful and real.
I also take plenty of time. One hour of photography often becomes 1.5 hours without extra costs.

Guidance and directions

You do not need any experience. I guide you where necessary and take care of details such as light, posture and eye direction. But I also leave enough space for you to be yourself. That usually produces the most beautiful photos.

Variation in the photos

During the shoot we regularly change setup, background and sometimes clothing if you brought options (and if it fits your shoot). This way you get a beautiful mix of images that match your style and story.

What do we do in bad weather?

How does a photoshoot work in bad weather? It often sounds like a problem, but in practice it is almost always fine. I keep an eye on the weather forecast and choose the moment that works best, even when it looks like it might turn into a photoshoot Curacao bad weather situation.

Light rain, clouds or a bit of wind are rarely a reason to reschedule and often give calmer and more beautiful light.

Only in really bad conditions, such as storm, heavy rain or very cold temperatures, do we choose a better moment. Rescheduling is free: no time pressure and no stress. Want to know exactly how I handle this? Read the article about photoshoot Curacao bad weather.

What happens after the photoshoot?

How does a photoshoot work afterwards? Then my work behind the scenes begins. I make a careful selection of the photos and edit them. I edit them in my style and according to any wishes you have. This way you receive a series of photos that are truly useful to you.

Selection of the best photos

During a shoot I always take more photos than you finally receive. That is on purpose: I only select the images that are strongest both technically and in atmosphere. You get a varied and complete series without duplicates or weaker shots.

Careful editing

Every selected photo is edited for colour, contrast and brightness. I remove small imperfections without losing you in the process. You remain recognisable, but at your best.

Delivery

You receive the photos in high resolution, delivered digitally via a personal link. You can download them straight away, share them on social media or have them printed. The number of photos depends on the package you book. For a personal shoot with 1-2 people you receive at least 15 high-resolution photos, but in practice it is often more. I deliver what is good. No extra costs afterwards.
I usually deliver within 1 to 2 weeks, unless we agree otherwise in advance. Read also what happens after your photoshoot for more about this process.
